It sucks spending forever deciding which way to go, only to select a path and walk down it only to turn around and wish you went the other way.
So far, my program (Hnrs Science and Business) is a lot more than I expected. Calculus seems easy so far, cell bio isn't bad, my online business course is a bitch but not so bad, chem is easy but just takes a lot of work, and my scibus workshop just makes me nervous. It's only 100 students, so we have presentations every week involving 20 minutes questions session after each group presents. I'm learning SO much, but I dont know if I can take it. It's literally training people to have a strong scientific background and get their BSc, but still have a strong business knowledge so they'll be able to start their own companies in science. All the upper year students have had amazing co-op placements and all the alumni have gone great places, but clearly its going to take a lot of work. I mean, taking law, anatomy, biotech, biochem, and accounting all at once in my upper years might get a bit hectic.
So heres the thing, I'm finding I'm in love with my science courses a lot more than business. So I've kinda been contemplating switching to just science. As much as chem might frustrate me at times, when I sit down and put my mind to it, I can pull through. They say you should only be taking courses you love to get what you want, but sometimes you need to swallow some big pills in order to do what you want. If I expect to go into any med or grad school with only a biology background, I'm dreaming. I'd probably have to take some chem courses in the future to catch up anyway which would be a silly waste of time and money. It's going to take some extra work but it will all pay off. Besides, most of my courses will be bio-oriented anyway.
There's also health studies, which I totally didn't look into and should've considered because I never really understood what AHS was. It'll allow me to take bio and health courses geared towards the human body, which is basically the main thing in bio that interests me. And I get to take english, psych, and sociology.. which would be pretty cool. But I'm just scared if I let go of my chem background, I might not be as set for life in the future. It'll be enjoyable now, but the last thing I need is to have to catch up on things later in life somehow.
So basically I've decided I'm going to battle this term out with all I've got. If I do bad in my business oriented courses, I'll switch to honours sci or honours life sci. But regardless of whether or not I hate a science course, I'm going to stick it out and never let myself shift away from bio and chem. I guess I'll thank myself later. Here it goes..
